Why Does Beethoven Matter?
Beethoven’s musical achievement and influence on culture are both enormous in magnitude, but on the 250th anniversary his birth we want to explore his current relevance though a collaborative multimedia project with Youth Art Team, wcfsymphony, and The New Live. Here are reflections on Beethoven’s art, his world, and his relevance from Jason Weinberger, founder of the New Live and Pauline Barrett Artistic Director of wcfsymphony

Musical Selections
Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 5, also known as the ‘Emperor’, is not only his last and most singular piece in this form but also a gateway into a new world of pianistic expression in the 19th century. We’ll be adding a whole new element to the understanding of this piece with Seeing Beethoven, with artwork by Youth Art Team set to the Emperor (as performed by wcfsymphony and winners of the 2016 MIPC).

Visual Ideas
Here are examples of visual treatments we have used on still imagery in past projects that united ensemble music with visual art. First up is crucial insight from technical director Jacob Meade about pacing and the motion techniques he applies to still images.

How to approach Beethoven
There is a wealth of information on Beethoven and his life available in print and on the web. We found a few great resources for our project!
